Meet Ed Brodsky

Ed Brodsky is the oldest of 4 children.  He was born in Toledo, Ohio in 1965.  His father was a physician and from his father he learned the values of honesty, professionalism, and hard work

From his mother he learned the values of being compassionate, caring, and the importance of good communication and listening. Ed Brodsky is married to his wife of 18 years, Kim Brodsky. Together they have two wonderful children, Evan, 14, and Alexa, 11. They live in Manatee County where both children attend Manatee County Public Schools.

As a young child, Ed’s dream was to be a police officer. He has always admired and respected law enforcement. He worked toward his dream of becoming a police officer, by graduating from the police academy and serving as a reserve police officer. He also served in the Florida Army National Guard with the Military Police.

It was while he was earning his degree in Criminology at the University of South Florida, that he decided to pursue law and serve law enforcement as a prosecutor. While at the University of South Florida, he worked at the Pinellas County Public Defender’s Office as an Interviewer interviewing clients that had been appointed to the Public Defender’s Office. This inspired his passion to becoming an attorney. He attended Nova University Law School in Ft. Lauderdale, Fl., and after a brief stint at the Broward County State Attorney’s Office, joined the Manatee County State Attorney’s Office under State Attorney Earl Moreland. In fact, Ed only went to law school to fulfill his dream to become a prosecutor.

Ed has been with the State Attorney’s Office for 20 years.  He has risen through the ranks of the office and has prosecuted in all divisions of the office.  He began his career by prosecuting misdemeanor and juvenile offenses, such as DUI, Domestic Battery, and Criminal Traffic offenses. He was then promoted to the felony division, where one of his first successes as a felony trial attorney came prosecuting a DUI Manslaughter. He was then promoted to the Sex Crimes Division where he prosecuted the worst of the worst sex offenders, those that prey on children. While in the Sex Crimes Division, Ed also tried major cases for the office, and successfully prosecuted Murder, Manslaughter, Sexual Battery and Trafficking cases.

Ed was eventually promoted to Felony Division Chief where he oversaw a felony division and was responsible for the management of the felony attorneys assigned to his division. Ed was then promoted to Chief Assistant State Attorney in Manatee County and was responsible for overseeing the entire Manatee County Office.

Today, Ed is the Chief Assistant State Attorney responsible for overseeing the day to day operations of all attorneys and staff in all 4 of our offices in Manatee, Sarasota, and DeSoto counties.  Ed has served on the Public Safety Coordinating Council in Manatee County, and currently sits on the Criminal Justice Commission in Sarasota County. In these committees, Ed has worked very closely with the top administration of the Courts, Court Administration, the Clerk of Courts, the Police Departments, the Sheriff’s Office and the Public Defender’s Office, in ensuring that the Criminal Justice systems runs as smoothly and efficiently as possible, and that we work to coordinate and complement the services we each provide.

Ed is proud to have attained the accomplishment of being Board Certified in Criminal Trial Law by the Florida Bar.  Ed also has and is committed to serving this community with passion, integrity and the highest ethical standards. Ed understands that this community deserves that public safety be made the first priority, and Ed is committed to doing just that.

Ed has the experience, the vision, and the training to lead this office into the future.  Ed will work hard to protect this community and be responsive to the needs of this community and to the needs of law enforcement. Ed asks for your vote for Ed Brodsky for State Attorney this 2012.
